Dent Corn (Zea mays var. indentata)

The mature kernels have a dent at the top, because they are hard around the sides and soft in the middle. Dent corn is the most common maize type in commercial growing, since it has been bred since the 19th century for high yields.
North American dent corn has its origins in 19th century crosses of gourdseed corn from southeastern USA with flint corn from northern USA.
