Emmer (Triticum turgidum subsp. dicoccum)

Svart Emmer

Black Emmer. Mature ears are black or dark grey with long awns. Winter type (sown in autumn). The straws are 150-180 cm long and quite stiff. This is the tallest wheat variety that I have grown.
Because the straws are so long and stiff they are very good for making drinking straws if you cut off the piece between two nodes.
