Sand leek grows wild across much of Europe, but has also been cultivated and spread by humans. Often grows densely.
Looks like a small leek with flat centimeter wide leaves. In the summer a stalk appears in the middle, and at the top of this there is a ball of round dark purple bulbils (3-4 mm diameter) and purple flowers on thin stalks between them.
Best eaten in spring - cut the "mini leek" leaves, which have a garlic like taste.
Propagated by planting bulbils in the ground. Can grow in the shade of trees.
