There are several thousand apple varieties around the world. Apples can have very different tastes, shapes, colours, maturing time and texture. Different varieties have different uses.
Apples are divided by their maturing time into summer apples, autumn apples and winter apples.
In grocery stores there are usually just a few varieties, which are adapted to the demands of the logistics from growers to supermarkets. In your own garden, however, you can grow many other varieties, which are often better.
To remain true, apples must be grafted.
