Einkorn (Triticum monococcum)

TRI18397

A free threshing (hulless) variety of einkorn wheat. Spring sown or sown as a winter crop. 70-100 cm high. The spikes are of the "black and tan" type, i.e. dun with black outer edges on the hulls.
I got this variety from the German gene bank IPK Gatersleben. Since the germination rate for the seeds of this variety was rather low it's so far hard to evaluate the yield.
The winter hardiness was rather bad, but this could be because the autumn growth was rather slow, and therefore the plants were not established enough before the winter. Sowing earlier could remedy this.
