Einkorn (Triticum monococcum)

TRI14732/TRI12910/TRI11525

Free threshing (hulless) einkorn wheat. Spring sown. 65-100 cm high.
I got these accessions from the German gene bank IPK Gatersleben.
These are three different accessions, but they are so similar (yet different to other free threshing einkorn varieties) that I suspect they are actually the same variety.
One thing they have in common is that the coleoptile and leaf sheaths have anthocyanin colouring, and are a bit brownish. (The other varieties of free threshing einkorn that I have tried all have green leaf sheaths and coleoptiles, cf. e.g. TRI 18399.)
Another thing they have in common is that the spikes are short and compact (a bit like club wheat) and that there are rather many sterile spikelets at the top of the spikes. Therefore the yield is rather low.
I have also tried sowing these in autumn, but their winter survival was not too good. Maybe this can be improved by selection or by sowing them earlier in September, so that the plants are better established before the winter. I noted that the initial growth in autumn is rather slow.
