Zanduri Wheat (Triticum timopheevii)

Chelta zanduri is an unusual tetraplod wheat species from the region north of Kutaisi in Georgia. Traditionally it was cultivated as a mixture of the two species Triticum monococcum (einkorn), Triticum timopheevi (chelta zanduri) and sometimes also a third species Triticum zhukovskyi (Zhukovski wheat). Chelta zanduri is usually hulled, but there is a hulless (free threshing) type Triticum timopheevi subsp. militinae, which I grow.
Zanduri wheat is similar to emmer wheat, but can easily be distinguished by the hairy leaf sheaths of zanduri wheat, see photo.
Zanduri wheat is of interest to wheat breeders due to its good resistance to many diseases.
